Future Space Nerds

Here's a link to a great series on YouTube that was shot in my neighborhood. In fact, Gwen, Owen and I watched them shooting episode two. Check it out, it's really good. The cast includes Bill Hader, Jason Sudeikis and Paul Scheer.

Morning Run

As you can see above I made a major miscalculation when planning my route for this morning. I finished my intervals at Sixth Avenue a mile away from my apartment. Yeesh! I walk/ran the rest of the way but it was quite a trip. At least I have a new goal to shoot for, running around Prospect Park and making it home.

On the way back I tried to listen to Jonathan Katz's excellent podcast, Hey, We're Back but I kept running into street noise or large construction crews setting up for the day so I couldn't hear Katz, whose voice is subtle even under the best of conditions. If you're somewhere quiet you should check it out.

Everything I Consume: The Bugle

Pour a glass of egg nog, take a sip of that egg nog, spit that egg nog on the floor and then pour that egg nog out the window.
If you've been missing The Daily Show and The Colbert Report during the writer's strike (and who hasn't?) you can get your dose of Daily Show correspondent John Oliver and partner Andy Saltzman on the weekly podcast The Bugle: Audio Newspaper for a Visual World.
Christmas to me, John is like a self-assessment tax return. It comes around once a year with the dread inevitability of a car crashing into a bus stop, you always leave it to the last minute, it's ruinously expensive and its always slightly more fun than you anticipate.
It's hilarious and the latest episode is a best of 2007 so you can get right up to speed.
Looking at the environmental state of the world it does seem increasingly clear that it has been designed with built in obsolescence making it very much like a Japanese TV, milk and women.

This May Amuse Only Me

So my company sent out an e-mail this morning saying they had updated everyone's e-mail signature. Unfortunately, most people don't seem to know they have to personalize it. Every internal e-mail I've gotten today has had this at the bottom:

That First M. Lastname, he does it all around here.

Everything I Consume: Flight of the Conchords

I have nothing to add to this clip of Flight of the Conchords performing "Think About It, Think, Think About It". Just freaking watch it.

Be Careful What You Wish For

Obviously, I miss my wife and kids when I'm not with them but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little excited about being by myself from Sunday night until I pick up the rest of the clan at LaGuardia tonight. It has not gone well.

My flight was delayed leaving Akron-Canton.

I was seated in the middle of a college musical theater group that frequently broke into song. I thought I was through with that when I left Northwestern.

It took forever to get a cab and the cab driver couldn't open his trunk.

I yelled at the cab driver and had to apologize to him.

I ordered takeout and it was cold.

The next morning my train to work sat at Delancey Street for 20 minutes destroying my first chance to get to work on-time since my hours changed.

When I got home from work my PS2 broke destroying my chance of a night of NCAA06 bliss.

One of my cats took a poop on the rug.

It took a very long time to clean up all her other poops on the rug.

I was too tired from doing everything else to work on the new family budget.

This morning, I was rushing to get a pre-work haircut (if you don't have two kids you have no idea how hard it is for me to get a haircut) when I noticed Daisy Dumont's paw was bleeding. It didn't look that great. After a lot of wondering what to do I took her to the Vet. She has an abscess and will have to wear a collar and go on antibiotics but she'll be up and stealing my food again soon.

Because of this I had to take cab to work and got in at 11. That is not getting to work on time.

On the plus side I finally saw Cradle Will Rock and that was pretty good until the actually performed their heavy-handed titular play. Everyone in the world was in it including the ubiquitous Uncle Junior and Miranda's housekeeper.

Don't Get Me Started

Molly Shannon hosted Saturday Night Live this weekend and brought her finest recurring character, Jeannie Darcy. Jeannie is a gloriously unfunny stand-up comic who tells jokes with utter joylessness. She performs with the enthusiasm of a civil service worker on the cusp of retirement. She always wears a mullet, clothes from 1987 and performs in front of a brick wall. In one sketch workers brought in a brick wall for her performance at an old-age home. Molly Shannon only started doing Jeannie Darcy late in her SNL career so there are only a few appearences before she quit the show for tv guest appearences, movie cameos and colorless best friend roles.

Here's a link for people who think Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip is funnier than Molly Shannon.

Don't get me started. Don't even get me started.
